Thoughts through the train

My friend Giulia was traveling by train on the seat in front of me when I’ve captured this photo (exactly 8 days ago).
Her thoughts was lost not merely in the reading of a magazine, but they was running through the space while her reflection was merged in the landscape dragged by the train motion.
This picture evokes peace because of the transparency of her ethereal image, but she evokes also worrying because of the message of restlessness provided by the speed of the train.

Thoughts through the train

This picture wasn’t graphically manipulated, and it keeps some blur on the window and some unaesthetic glints come from a carriage’s lamp. I’ve chose to keep this impefections to preserve the orginal atmosphere of the moment.

This photo shows a sunset on the Adriatic sea, it was taken from a running train heading Trieste (in the North-East of Italy), and I love its hue homogeneity.

Sunset on Sea

For publishing this picture I have before downloaded it from my digicamera, I have rotated the frame and I have cropped it. Nothing else graphics correction was applied to this photo.
And I love that too :D

How can I comment on this picture? I can only say that I love the light that (I don’t know how) I’ve successfully captured, especially on the water, and the smallness of the two principal subjects: the angler and the lighthouse.

The sea, the angler, and the lighthouse

If you want to know some technical notes: an exposure timing of 1/1600 seconds, ISO 50, an aperture of f/8.3, focal lenght of 17 mm. Image was obtained at 9 o’clock along the northern Adriatic coast (not so far from Venice).

Last week I went to Pescara, a city by the Adriatico Sea. There was an international meeting in astrophysics but in the evening we had some spare time. So, why don’t walk on the foreshore and capture some picture?

The sand, the people and the sky

In this vertical picture I wanted to show the beach from the micro-scale of the grains of sand in the bottom to the macro-scale of the vastness of the sky in the top, through the motion of a girl that emerges from the sea, raising the water with a leg.

I shot this photo at 6 p.m. and the light of Sun was weak, so I have only applied a levels correction to this picture.

From the Keyhole of the Knights of Malta

Rome. High on the Aventine hill in Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta (the Square of the Knights of Malta) is the knights’ private garden and the way into the garden is through a huge entranceway with a locked wooden door. There is a tiny keyhole in the center of the door through which one is able to view an arbor way of trees, which frames the Dome of St. Peter’s in the distance. (text from thetravelzine.com)

From the Keyhole of the Knights of Malta

This picture was realized overlapping two frames, made with two different exposure timing: 1/15 seconds (for a good exposure of the garden) and 1/100 seconds (for a good exposure of the dome). I fixed the aperture to the same value f/4,9 to obtain the same field dept. In computer post-production I overlapped the two frames only in the central zone with a feather on the levels. Finally I applied the unsharp mask.

Countryside scenery

This scenery show bright green fields with hills in background. It was taken from a running train going through the Lazio’s countriside.

Countryside scenary

Note, like in the Running past the dawn’s photo, how the close-up grassland appears “dragged” because of motion of the train (hint: put camera lens to the window to avoid nasty reflections).

I would have liked to apply some levels correction only in the top of the picture, to underline the shape of clouds. So I used a layer mask to apply this correction in a chosen part of the figure, brushing white to activate the correction and black to deactivate it.
